Gayla Brasel, LMHC

Gayla Brasel is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor providing therapy services for children, adolescents, families, and adults at Freedom First Psychological Services.


Gayla has over 20 years experience working with a diverse range of clients with mental health and learning challenges. She specializes in working with children, adolescents, families, and adults. Specific areas of expertise include: ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, parenting, family issues/dynamics, and trauma. Gayla has experience using multiple therapeutic approaches and prefers to utilize the approach that best suits the needs and goals of each particular client. Some examples of common approaches include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Play and Game Therapy, Mindfulness, and Somatic Techniques.


Gayla obtained her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Communications and her Master’s in Counselor Education from SUNY Brockport. Gayla has developed her skills by working in a variety of settings, including several schools, early head start and head start home visitation, and mental health agencies, one of which treated individuals with dual diagnoses. Gayla also has taught Psychology and Communications at the secondary level.
