Bushra Akram, LMHC

Bushra Akram is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, providing therapy services for adults at Freedom First Psychological Services with a specific concentration in grief and loss.
Bushra obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Psychology and Sociology from the State University at Albany, SUNY. Bushra then went on to complete her Master of Science in Education degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The College of Saint Rose. During graduate school, Bushra worked as a Pediatric Bereavement Counselor with The Community Hospice for her practicum and internship.
Bushra is skilled at working with clients struggling with major life transitions, specifically, grief and loss. Clients who feel stuck in these emotions, that may include depression and anxiety, are met with compassion and respect for their experiences. Clients who also struggle with traumatic pasts that are impacting their current state are supported and gently guided to learn more about themselves and implement changes towards the person they desire to be.
Bushra utilizes intervention styles that best fit each individual’s needs. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation. Bushra aims to create a safe environment for her clients through active listening, empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.
