Carole Okun is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, providing therapy services for Freedom First Psychological Services, PLLC.
Carole has over 23 years of experience working in the mental health field. Carole works with clients ranging in age from older teens to the elderly. She specializes in several topics of therapy, including fear, anxiety, panic, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and couples therapy.
In therapy, Carole utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to teach specific ways to overcome fear, anxiety, panic and depression, with the idea that you can start using the techniques immediately. She will help you recognize and reframe sabotaging thoughts, set realistic goals, and discover healthier ways of thinking and functioning. You will find Carole to be compassionate, warm and nonjudgmental, providing you with a safe environment where you will be encouraged to explore, grow and reach your potential. She will assist you in overcoming difficulties by helping you challenge your thinking, behavior and emotional responses.
Carole has a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. She has completed postgraduate training at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy in Philadelphia and the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy in NYC. She is a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and has Diplomate status in the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, one of only approximately 1200 members around the world to reach this distinction.
Carole has also trained in couples/marital therapy at the Ackerman Institute in NYC, as well as completed a one year certificate program in couples therapy with the Couples Institute in Palo Alto, California.
Carole has worked in various inpatient settings and outpatient mental health clinics in New York City and Plattsburgh, NY. She has also worked in private practice in Westchester County and in Plattsburgh.
